I've recently begun experiencing a loss of connection to game servers after a about 10 minutes of gameplay. It'll suddenly just lose connection, and I'll usually just time out and lose connection to the server. However, for Team Fortress 2, with a longer timeout time, it'll have enough time to recover, and I regain connection. For most other games, I just lose connection to the server.

The problem doesn't seem to be caused by my ISP; the connection is quite steady if I'm just browsing the internet or playing flash games. I've already tried restarting the router. It also doesn't seem to be caused by the firewall. I tried disabling it earlier and then testing the connection, to no avail. I don't think it's caused by any kind of virus. I use Norton Security Suite, and it only detected dsupdate.exe (which after some searching, seems to be a false positive).

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, if that matters.

Sorry if I'm missing any information that could be important on here; I'm not too familiar with connections.

any other devices on the router getting disconnected

I would try the following

Update the router firmwars - whats the make and model of router
Update the PC Network adapter - whats the make and model are you connected by Cable or wireless to router

its possible Norton could be causing the issue - is norton the limited version that supplied on the PC or is this something you have purchased ? - it maybe worth completely removing with the norton removal tool - but if its not the cause you will need the media and subscription keys information to put back on
if demo version , then the windows 7 firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials is a good combination - if you read the security forum

post back the following when its all working OK and then repeat all the tests when it disconnects

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Ping Tests}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Hi etaf, thanks for replying.

I don't think it's a problem with the router or adapter, since my brother's computer which is virtually identical is connected the same way, and he has no problems with the connection. The connection's much steadier today. I played for about 30 minutes before a slight hiccup for a few seconds, while yesterday it would disconnect for about 30 seconds. Either way, I'm not sure whether that was the same problem or just a server problem. It may be that my ethernet cable is damaged; it's a relatively old one and I haven't changed it for a while. I'll get to checking that later.

EDIT: Oh, and I have the full version of Norton. I don't think it's causing the problem, since my brother has the same thing. I also can't run the tests. When I disconnect from the server, it's fine, and I can refresh and see other servers.
