home built computer, no OS yet, trying to load Vista home premium and get above message, trying to load from a Super Write master DVD. Maybe I should install a plain old CDROM and try again, Have about 5 hours of messing around and 0 results. i get into setup all right . MOBO Asus M2N-E, AMD dual core processor, plenty of memory. I'm stumped this is to much for my 71 year old brain.

You get into setup OK? Then when do you get the message? Is it a SATA drive you are installing to?

If the CD does not boot (or startup) these are the only reasons:

The computer is Not set to start CD or DVD first (some computers have a F12 function for boot option at startup
The CD is in fact Not a bootable CD (ie Upgrade Disc Only)
The CD itself is damaged (check for scratches on the surface)
The CD drive is damaged (use another drive)

    But your quote above
do you mean the computer's setup Bios screen or the Windows install setup screen

Thanks for help. problem solved, DVD IDE cable not securely seated in MOBO. You just have to check , check and double check before you start taking things apart. Thanks again.
