I formatted my hard drive and am attempting to reinstall Windows 98. Whenever I try, the computer starts beeping incessantly and the question "Disk Boot Sector to be Modified?" is asked with a y/n choice. Any key pressed then causes and error message which reads: Windows Setup cannot install. A disk error was detected while writing a new boot record to your first harddrive. I've already performed a surface scan and there were no bad sectors. What do I do?

Try going into your bios, disable virus warning. some bios chipsets ship with onboard boot sector virus protection. You need to disable it, after your done, remember to reenable it.
