In the past I have tried to eliminate a virus by trying to use restore. However, in cleaning up the disk/defrag I have noticed that the restore action takes up quite a bit of the hard drive, and cleaning up the disk does not remove it. Is there anyway to clean that up and regain some of the hard drive space.

What operating system? Right-click My Computer and set how much space to reserve for restore points. If XP, look at the second page after Disk Cleanup has scanned---there is an option to remove all restore points except the last.
