Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 530. I got it in 2009. I keep it updated, run scans regularly. My problem is my screen. It looks like it's in safe mode about 2/3 from the top and the rest of the screen is normal. I have tried changing the display, the graphics, brightness etc... and nothing works. HELP !!

Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop

What's the description(brand name, model number, etc.) of the monitor connected to it?

----------------------------------------------------------

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.

Click the + in Display Adapters

What's the description of the device listed there?

Double-click that description to open its properties window, then click the "Driver" tab.

What's the driver version and driver date listed there?

Yes thats the one I have
Okay, good. (y)

I'm not there to see how to resolve the display problem, so you should make use of the monitor's on-line manual - user guide.

I looked at the manual and nothing there helped. Not sure if this is related or not but win help and support or any troubleshooting tab won't open either. No error messages pop up just sometimes flashes a window then closes. Any suggestions ? Thank you

It sounds like the Windows XP operating system is damaged or corrupted.

Have you been using any registry/file "cleaner/fixer/booster/tuneup" type programs?

You may need to do a clean reinstall of Windows XP and get a fresh start.

Yep, used all of those trying to fix the problem. Didn't do any good though. I've had driver booster on pc for a while now but didn't use the others until this problem showed up. How do I find the xp product key to reinstall win xp ? I think it either came preinstalled, cause I don't have it on paper anywhere.

It's a good chance then that the Windows XP operating system is trashed.

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on that Dell Inspiron 530 desktop?

The 25-character product key will be on the Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker on the case.
(Do not submit that number here)

Do you live in the U.S.A.?
If you do, a restore disc kit for it can be purchased here.

Yes I'm a Texas gal. What case are you talking about? The CN number on the back of the monitor?

I'm referring to the computer case, not the monitor.

There should be multiple stickers on it.

One will have the product key and Windows version that came pre-installed.

One will have the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number.
(All Dell computers, monitors, printers, etc. have these numbers)

Hmmm, for whatever reason, the xp cd came in a paper sleeve. Has a bar code with a number letter combination on back and I tried that but wasn't enough.

Please do the following:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) file to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.
