I am having display problems with Windows Xp Proffessional. I have a Radeon 9800XT. It is 1 year old. Had no problems until yesterday I was playing Counter Strike online, I noticed that there were red lines appearing. I have taken 3 pictures of the display problem. I was wondering if this had something to do with malware/viruses.

Nope, it's not a virus or malware that's causing those bars (I can't comment on the HJT log but it is not the cause of THIS problem). Although you may be infected, that is NOT what is causing these graphical corruptions.

    Your 9800XT card is dead.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me last year with that card with those exact same symptoms like in those pictures. I had the 9800XT for 2 years and then it died. It started with red, purple, or green lines like that, then it would happen on the desktop, and then huge lines while not even gaming, and then it would turn into little white squares on the Windows loading screen like you have.

The card needs to be replaced. When you do that, even replace it with an identical card, everything should be fine. Luckily I was under warranty so Dell sent me a new 9800XT free of charge.

I can't see naything wrong in teh log so suspect hardware

try updating graphics card drivers ,if taht doesn't work then it does sound like the card is dead or dying

from what I hear they are quite prone to overheating and that causes those symptoms

Like I said, I had and still have (albeit a new one) 9800XT and that's what happened when it was on its last legs.

As virtually evident from your pictures, the graphical corruptions will persist through POST and before Windows is finished loading too (as well as during games and on the desktop) which pretty much eliminates drivers as the cause of the issue.

You can try to update the drivers, but I can almost guarantee you that will not do anything.

If I still had the screenshots of my problem, I'd post them and they'd look exactly like that.

You can check to see if it is overheating, or swap the card in a known working machine to see if it does the same thing.

I suspected overheating initally, but when it would happen in the morning when I first turned on the computer after having it off for hours (started happening after only a few seconds of being on), that ruled out overheating. My case was clean, air flow was good, I have tons of fans, so overheating wasn't it.
