On my monitor display at the lower right hand corner of the tray where the clock readout is... it displays the time; however,
the minute readouts are all scrambled and unreadable. This is also the case with the readout just above my start button but
only when the computer is "thinking" - when it is done thinking..
"done" displays clearly (as it should). I suspect a bad cable or chip in the monitor but... Any ideas??? I have an "96" IBM pentium
    w/windows "98" 4.1 and a Magnavox enhanced VGA monitor.

Personally, my first thought would be that the drivers for you're graphics card are in need of an update. It's also one of the least expensive things you can try to resolve the problem, so what have you got to lose?
