Hmmm... what happened to the good ol' days when there was just AVI and MPG files? Anyway...

It seems like every time I download a video, there's some new codec I don't have. DivX this DivX that blah blah blah... isn't there one compelation zip file that has everything you need to play these videos out on the internet? Just when I thought I had the latest (DivX 5.1) all I get is audio and a black screen. Kinda frustrating.

    Using WMP 9
    Windows XP Pro
    Smokin' fast hardware.

    Thanks!

I had somewhat of a similar problem (also running WMP9 on WinXP Pro).....try downloading the previous version of DivX (5.0) from http://www.oldversion.com/. That worked for me.....

the k-lite codec pack should play anything you throw at it.

however, it is possible that somebody encoded audio and a black screen of nothingness on purpose. movies like this are often distributed on kaazzaa, in an effort to piss people off and prevent piracy.

If the movie is from a trusted (known good source) or play on someone elses computer just fine, its a codec problem. If it don't have video ,and you get no errors during playback, and its not from a trusted source its likely that the file is just a hoax.
