    Hi,

    OS Windows 96SE

I am here asking for advice again.

I do hope that, as usual, someone can offer me some advice/comments, on two questions.

    1. When I go to Start>programmes I have Divx>Divx Codec>The Playa. This was installed on my pc when I first had it.

    I do not use this.

I have on my system, Cyberlink Power DVD, which I use to view DVDs.

Is it ok to uninstall Divx Codec and The Playa. Will uninstalling have any effect on any other application. They both have an uninstall option.

    2. Windows update has been advising for some time now to download and install DirectX 9.0b End User Runtime.
I do not play games but I do watch DVDs on my pc and at present I have DirectX 8.1

Would it be advantageous to download DirectX 9.0b.

Your help, once again, would be appreciated.

    Regards

    Cinders

Yes, you can safely uninstall The Playa you refer to. No you do not need the directx upgrade. You surely do need all the MS Critical Updates and Service Packs.

    Hi Cinders,

As styxx said, removing the Playa should not cause
    a problem.

As for DirectX9.0 - Some people have been having
problems with it. Read the reviews of that product
    at www.download.com

    Hi Styxx and dogbonz,

Thank you both for your replies.

I do have all critical updates except the KB831167 as the advice for that one is only to install if problems occur after installing critical update KB832894. At present I haven't any real problems. I am really looking to uninstall programmes/applications that are not used/required.

    Regards

    Cinders
