    Hi Everyone,
I have a serious problem starting up the computer. When i turn it on and the Windows 98 screen comes up I get a black screen wth a message that says... "CANNOT FIND DEVICE FILE THAT MAY BE NEEDED TO RUN WINDOWS 98 OR A WINDOWS APPLICATION. THE WINDOW REGISTRY OR SYSTEM.INI FILE REFERS TO THIS DEVICE FILE, BUT THE DEVICE NO LONGER EXISTS. IF YOU DELETED THIS FILE ON PURPOSE, TRY UNINSTALLING THE ASSOCIATED APPLICATION USING ITS UNINSTALL OR SET UP PROGRAM. IF YOU STILL WANT TO USE THE APPLICATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEVICE FILE, TRY REINSTALLING THAT APPLICATION TO REPLACE THE MISSING FILE

VSERVER.VXD -PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE"

After I press any key, another message comes up saying.."A REQUIRED .DLL FILE,NUMISC.DLL FILE WAS NOT FOUND"

    Howdy ALIP...

    Just a question...

After you get the error .."A REQUIRED .DLL FILE,NUMISC.DLL FILE WAS NOT FOUND" will the pc then boot into Windows ?

NUMISC.DLL, is a Norton .dll, and for VSERVER.VXD, try this from Microsoft...

After the Error message it gives you the option to click "o.k." (this is on the desktop screen by the way)
I have to go through all of this to get to the desktop and use any programs!!

I'd like to see you go to Start-Run and type msconfig and hit enter.

Go to the system.ini file. See if there's anything in there that you recognize that's been removed. Particularly, if it's some removed recently. Don't touch anything if you don't know where you are.

Take a screen shot or a copy of the ini file and paste it here. :)
