I have clients that can email me, but I cannot email out to anyone. This sounds like a DNS issue to me. I have 2 servers set up (x1 and x2). x2 is the PDC and shouldn't need x1 for anything, but when I take down x1, all mail sent gets bounced back. I am running exchange. Is there a setting to fix that or is it in x2 dns settings? Do you need any more info?

Thanks!

Is exchange on server 1 or server 2? What type of network are you running? When it gets bounced back are you saying its bounced back to you internally or bounced back to external people email to you? What kind of error are you getting on these emails?

What is your DNS settings on your Main server and on your secondary server? I.E. is server 2 the mail server and pointed DNS wise to server 1? If thats the case then yes if server 1 goes down you will get mail failures.
