I installed a Linksys router so I could network my desktop and laptop. The laptop accessed the internet with no problem, but now my desktop won't connect. I took the router out of the picture and connected the cable modem directly to the desktop and still no connection.

The 1st tech guy at my ISP that I talked to said my Ethernet card drivers were probably corrupted. Since I couldn't find my cd for that, I went out a bought a USB Ethernet adapter. Hooked it up and still no internet connection.

After several more hours on the phone with my isp, the tech guy said there is nothing wrong with the modem, but the desktop isn't communicating with the isp and I have a dns problem - whatever that is. He said to go into add-remove programs/windows setup and check the communications box. I did and it won't install. At first it asked for Win98 cd then said it couldn't install it. Now it doesn't even try to install it.

What can I do now?

Win98 256 RAM
Pent. 3 - 800 mhz
c drive - 10 gig
d drive - 8 gig
external g drive - 30 gig
