hi, the names Dan. I came across this little annoyance a couple days ago and since I'm a self teacher i was trying to fix it myself, but i failed. I'm sure that some one has come across this problem before. When i try to open my browser it loads the "cannot find server page" and in the address bar it says http://www.dnscaching.net/dnserror/?url=http://www.....(eg.www.google.com or any other site typed in) but yet i sometimes still can use msn messenger. Also if i use safe mode with networking it works all fine and dandy, so i'm thinking its a virus or just something that runs and does not like me. I have ran spyware removal tools like spybot and adaware countless times and norton anitivirus about twice, all updated mined you. So you see? I have no clue what to do now and i desire any little help that can be given, thank you.

You've verified the DNS settings right? Have you attempted to ping the DNS servers? How about other IP address out in Internet land? If those work, then try pinging server names out on the internet. If that all works, then IE's got problems. Could be that IE is being hijacked.

If any of the tests fail, you've got problems relating to that test.

    In order to ping,

Open up a cmd prompt (start / run / cmd)

Then first try pinging by IP address. You need to get this working before you can ping by name

    eg - "ping 199.181.164.1" - no quotes

Once you get this working, then you can try pinging by name

    eg - "ping www.yahoo.com" - no quotes

You need to be able to do both these before you worry about whether IE works or not.

Until you get everything working, you might try completely uninstall any 3rd party firewalls.
