Do DSL providers try to block you from switching to Cable?

    I thought this issue deserved life and discussion outside of my llimited problem detailed here.

    It appears that DSL providers (at least the dominant one here in Canada) are making it difficult/impossible for people to easily switch to other providers such as cable. My cousin who is a techie in a far away area of the Province has sent me the below email detailing but not solving the problem.

    Is this common?

    Well, I think the real answer here is they simply configure the networking for the PPPoE protocol. I think only conspiracy nuts would think this is an attempt to make it difficult to install another service. ;)

    Does uninstalling the Sympatico DSL software restore the registry entry? If not, Sympatico has a bug, and their tech support should be willing to provide a fix. I'm assuming that you've already checked their web site and they don't admit to any such bug or provide a fix there.
