The problem started around 2 days ago. When you plug the charger in, the screen goes brighter. As I was sat there on the Laptop, the screen went dim. So I thought the Charger must of come out the back, so I checked but it was still plugged in. I looked at the charger icon and it wasnt charging. I then unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started charging fine. Then last night it did the same, only this time it wouldnt start charging again and then the battery ran out all together. Now I cant get the laptop on.

Do I need a new charger or battery?

    thanks

It won't be the battery, it sounds like its either the charger or the jack in the back of the laptop - the jacks do break and if some of the pins don't make good contact you could get the results you are seeing that it works some of the time.

    Thanks for the reply

How would I find out if its the charger or the jack?

    thanks

Does the jack feel loose in the laptop? You can also test the voltage coming out of the power adapter using a multimeter and see if there's any visible damage to the cable.

Someone told me to plug the charger in and see if it gets hot. I have had it plugged in for 2 hours now and its still cold. Could it be the charger?

I will try and get the voltage checked tomorrow. I got to find someone who got a meter first

    jack is not loose

    thanks

Yes it could be the charger, any local shop can probably test it for free or a nominal fee as well.
