    Hi,

I have a NEC 9100A 40/10/40x CD-RW drive on my home computer. I would like to burn around 300 CD-R's loaded to 700MB capacity with it. If each CD takes 3 minutes to burn, then I'm calculating that it would take about 15 hours, manually loading each disk.

I would like to know if such intense operation would be harmful to the drive. If cooling is a problem, I could open the case and circulate the air with a fan. Also, should I take breaks now and then, letting the drive rest a little? Is it wise to do this job at all?

    Thanks,
    -Dan

You are not allowing for time to check results of the burn- each CD should be verified...and check the files for viruses first....you dont want to waste time /disks....
Just my opinion. With that much use, anything could happen. I know a guy who does a lot of burning, matter of fact, thats about all he does in spare time. Uses file sharing, and winXP but on a brand new Dell...has no problems, except for viruses and "weird" files....blanks, fake, partials, they are sharing a lot of junk these days....takes more time to find good files than to burn!
If you are doing data or not using file sharing, that should save some time. Don't have any advice about cooling, but it makes sense to watch for heating up. A rest is probably a good safe way to go, too. Geez, you'll have to get up once in awhile!

    Thanks for your reply.

No I am not burning files I got from file sharing, but rather a cd with multimedia files of a recent gathering that I want to distribute to many who attended.

    Any more suggestions?

Get a backup drive just in case, I just bought a 40x12x40 at CompUSA for $30 after a $50 rebate ;)

They are almost throw aways now a days anyway. :(
