    Situation:

Harddrive 0 =MASTER is formated in NTFS & has WinXP OS installed (ONLY the OS is on this drive.)

Harddrive 1 = SLAVE is fomatted in FAT32 (programs, data files, photos, , etc. )

Will this marriage work? Or do BOTH harddrives have to be same (NTFS or FAT32... ) in order to be able to access the files.

    Thanks

You can read both drives from the OS as is. The only problem would be booting from a DOS disk (win98), you could not read NTFS disks.

    Hope this helps!

NTFS and FAT32 are filesystem types. They can be mixed in any manner if you're using 2K or XP, W9x or ME only read the FAT filesystems.

I feel like I need to reinstall the WINXP but formatting the HDD in FAT32. How do I go about this? I called for a new installation and it had not asked for a choice of formatting.

This must have to be done from DOS I presume.

Is there a step by step procedure I can follow to do that?
    Please Help.

    A) Reformat HDD in FAT32
    B) New Install of WINXP

Help, I am having no luck. The site recommended above calls for a WINME startup disk. which I have. When trying to use... it states:

    INCORRECT MS-DOS VERSION

Look closer when you boot the XP CD, there's an option to format early in the installation script.

Formatting as fat32 may or may not be an option depending on the size of the partition. >32 gig and the only option in setup will be ntfs. <32 gig and you will have both options.
