I only got it because i think i need it to convert my Window Media Player files into VCD or unto a CD to play on my DVD Player.. Do i really need this Program and what makes it so different from Windows Media Player?

and also because I download the Free version it says I have to install the DIVX ADWARE program too.... Now is that only I have commericals flashing on my DIVX player or did i give them permisson to put spyware on my computer? Also after i downloaded DIVX my ZoneAlarm right away stop "spine_tickler" or something like that from accessing my computer.. THAT Spyware is Notrious for hacking into your Homepage and pasting itself in your Windows Program files so even Adware and Spybot can't get to it..

So do i really need this DIVX program?? thanks!!

To answer your immediate question, no, you shouldn't have to install the player...I didn't and don't have any problems.

Now you will probably want to tool around in the Security forum here in Tech Support Guy and you will find all sorts of suggestions for checking your system: Adaware 6, Spybot, Hijack This!, CWShredder, etc....

You can then post there with spyware/adware questions.

    Hope this helps,

You don't need divx player or divx codecs to convert wmv videos to svcd compatible mpeg2.
Divx is a codecs to encode video in compressed avi format, nothing to do with dvd.

More help about dvd, svcd etc here

Note that it's useful to have the last divx installed on your computer so that you can play avi files encoded with divx.
The free version has gator spyware. There is nothing terrible about this spyware but of course, as it's better to go without, and if you don't need to encode divx yourself, you can still download the totaly free, no-spyware version here:
It's the link "Standard DivX Codec(FREE)" under the table.

The divx player is even not necessary to play divx movies as long as you have the divx codecs installed.

Even better, there is an alternative to the divx codecs
