I've been backing up and storing important Mac-based files on my PC. Now when I try to transfer via ZIP disk these files back to my Apple PowerPC, the Mac interprets these files as PC and refuses to open them. Frustrating.

Why does XP alter these stored Mac files? And how can stop it?

    Thank you.

    Bob

    Hiya

I've moved you to the Mac forum for more response :)

What were the files that you stored on XP from the Mac? Can you remember what their extension were? If so, have you tried renaming the files once they're stored back on your Mac? Not sure how to do this as I don't own a Mac myself.

Had a look around, and there are some programs that may be able to convert them for you, as it looks like it may not be a simple case of renaming like Windows can.

    Regards

It has to do with file extentions, I believe. I run mac and windows as well. When I move a file from the PC to the Mac I sometimes have to fix the extension name on the end to make it work right.

    Eddie,

Back in February, you wrote a reply to my post about available programs to repair or convert Mac files that were corrupted by XP. What are these programs?

    Thank you,

    Bob

    Hi Bob

This is a blast from the past :p

Just reading, and the files that you backed up to the pc: Did they ever open on the pc, or were they just backed up there?

This is a program that is well recommended, but it looks like its just for putting mac files onto a pc, so that they can be opened:

However, what were the files? If they were office ones, take a look at this one:

    http://www.dataviz.com/products/conversionsplus/

However, the above two are paid versions. This one is free:

But again, its just for Office files I think.
