I have Windows XP Home, with SP1. This is what the message reads:

    Virus
    Trojan horse Startpage.8.AZ
    Is found in file

    C:\System Volume Information\_restore(68DCCD3E-2073-4915A5DC-A445A55876AD)\RP62\A0005727.dll

I've run AVG anti-virus / Spybot / Ad Aware / CW Shredder - nothing is detecting it. The "System Volume Information" folder isn't showing up in my visable or hidden C Drive folders. It shows up when I run a specific scan on AVG, but AVG is saying nothing is wrong (yes, it's been updated). It doesn't seem to have any apparent effect on my system for the time being, but it's there and I've run out of ideas.

Can anyone help with this? Thank you.

Please go to the majorgeeks link below and downloadHiJackThis by Merijn Bellekom:

***NOTE***Do not FIX anything without a log analyzer's guidance. MOST of what's listed is necessary for your computer to operate normally.

    HiJackThis download link

    Alternate download links:

    http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Under "Official Downloads" HiJackThis. It's the 2nd one down.

Download and unzip to a permanent folder of your own creation.

Open HiJackThis. Click "Scan". Then, in the lower left corner, click "Save Log".

Save it to your permanent HiJackThis folder (or floppy disk if necessary).

The log will open in Notepad. Click "Edit" then "Select All".

Copy and paste the log back to this thread.

Before we start, let's disable your System Restore. After the infection's been cleaned re-enable system restore.
Disabling System Restore in Windows XP Disable System Restore in Windows ME

IF, for some reason, you lose the ability to use IE or lose your internet connection...open HJT-->"Config"-->"Backups"-->"Restore".

Open HiJackThis. Click "Scan". Put a checkmark next to these:

    O2 - BHO: Idea2 SidebarBrowserMonitor Class - {45AD732C-2CE2-4666-B366-B2214AD57A49} - C:\Program Files\Desktop Sidebar\sbhelp.dll (file missing)

    O13 - WWW Prefix:
    O13 - Home Prefix:
    O13 - Mosaic Prefix:

Close ALL browser windows (except HiJackThis ;) ) and click "Fix checked."

    Re-start your computer.

    Post another HJT log.
