I am running on Windows2000 and have tried what MFDnSC advised another user and did this yesterday:

    "Fix these with HJT
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Service] C:\WINDOWS\system32\prvdi.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Service] C:\WINDOWS\system32\prvdi.exe"

but today, these files show up again. Also, McAfee reports deleting dload.exe once every few hours. It does not find any virus, though.

    I also tried:
    Sophos SAV32CLI
    Xoft Spy
    SpyBot
    AdAware SE

I also looked at windows and system32 entries, win.ini and system.ini, but nothing in there.

This is how my HJT log looks like after I have deleted the two prvdi.exe today:

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0
Scan saved at 13:27:51, on 01/31/2005
    Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195)

You have to delete the file in safe mode AND

    START – RUN – key in %temp% - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

AS it is running out of the temp dir - C:\DOCUME~1\MARTIN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\prvdi.exe

I also ran mwav and deleted files with Killbox. The dload.exe warnings have gone away and nothing is trying to be downloaded anymore. Thanks for your help!

    One other thing:

My ProcessGuard was stopping c:\winnt\system32\services.exe from terminating my McAfee update. Should I be worried that services.exe contains another trojan, and if yes, will deleting this file affect my Windows?

    Thanks again!
