After installing IDM (Internet Download Manager), I created a folder for my first
download. I made sure the pathname to the folder was entered correctly in IDM.

File size, speed of the download, and everything else was displayed normally.
I waited two or three minutes and opened the folder. The partially downloaded
file should have been visible. It was not! The folder was empty.

I've probably used a couple of hundred download applets and managers over many
years. This problem with IDM is something I've never seen before.

Why is this happening and is there a solution?

IDM uses a temporary folder to store partially downloaded files until the download is complete and then transfers the complete file to the target folder. That is just the way the program works and not considered a problem that needs a solution.

Yes, of course you're correct!

All new software on my office desktop is tried in a virtual environment, before it's
installed. A few mouse clicks and the mounted partition is gone.

I was anxious to try IDM, because it has features not available with other managers.
I didn't read the help file before starting a download.

I was downloading to a USB stick. I assume the temporary folder can be assigned
to the same flash drive. If not, I won't be using IDM.

Thanks for jolting my tired brain, cwwozniak.
