    Hi,

My daughter received a macbook Air for Christmas. She would like to download Microsoft Office onto the laptop, particularly so she can check her email through Outlook.

She does not need the newest version and it is pretty pricey to purchase the newest version anyway. Is it possible to download (there is no disc drive on the Macbook air) an older version of Microsoft Office and if so, can you recommend a trusted website to do so on?

    Thanks,
    Saranee

No version of Microsoft Office that I'm aware of is downloadable for free.

Not all suites contain the Outlook app, so you need to buy a suite that does.

Why doesn't your daughter set up and use a web-based Email app(which is free)?

    Hi,

I am not looking for a free version. I know that there is no such thing. It's just that the 2011 suite costs 200.00. I'd like to pay a bit less if possible. 2008 or 2010 for mac would be fine. Just wondering if I am safe to just purchase download from any website, or if anyone can recommend a reputable one.

My apology for the misunderstanding. Your comments had me assuming otherwise.

If you google "Office for Mac", it'll bring up numerous links to browse through.

2003, 2007 and 2010 are for a Windows machine, not for a Mac.
You need to get a version that is designed for the Mac.

When I previously googled it, versions 2008 and 2011 came up for Macs.

I think you can download it from CNET

Not to disagree, but I don't think any MS Office version can be downloaded. And even if one could be, I sure wouldn't use CNET to get it. They have started bundling crapware with many of their downloads.

Well you did, and you are wrong.
I agree CNET may not be the best place, but I was only pointing to one of many.

Some may require you to actually prove you have a valid licence, but that is not an issue.

All that I have found are either a Trial or Torrent versions.

But MS has printed on some boxes of where it can be installed from their site, but one MUST enter the Key Code off the box to do the install. This is being done for those machines that do not come with a CD/DVD player built in.
