    I had a program called Livve. I went to log on one day and it said an update was needed so I did it. But after that, I couldn't log on. I keep getting a message that says: failed to create empty document. Then my Paltalk program messed up. I uninstallled and reinstalled both these programs several times but still can't get there. I have also tried to download several things such as the trial version of Nortons and many other things but the downloads won't complete. It acts like I'm not connected to the interent but I am. Do you have any idea what is causing all this and how I can get it straightened out?

    I may as well get you started until someone signs on that can deal with this issue.
    First of all state what your operating system is.
    Then we want to know have you ran a virus scan from an updated virus scanner? if not go to Housecalls ..
    Click HERE!!
    then next we'll ask have you scanned for spyware. ( you need to if you haven't)There is a great little program for that but you have to download it also. Its called Ad-Aware & you can get it HERE!

    Okay, this may be related too.....
    Go to Run and type MSINFO32
    On the left choose Hardware Resources, then I/O. Is there is any in there that does not have an ok at the far right column let us know.? All should say next to it " OK ".

    Last but not least... Have you cleaned up your system & defragged after running scandisk.
    another thing I just thought of... did you ever go to add/remove & uninstall the bad download?or was it even there?

    any of these programs would work fine if you can get to them...

    Savvy :)
    ( yea yea I know its to early in the day for you....lol)

    One of the things that can cause both those problems is overfull temporary directories, so a Disk Cleanup would be indicated first of all. Other than that, for the "failed to create empty document" error, I don't know what to suggest, it probably has something to do with a missing or incorrect dll version; but it's not telling you what.

    If you continue to have problems with downloading, follow Bryan's instructions in this post. It is becoming a rather common problem with different manifestations.

    Also do this: open a DOS prompt and enter:

    set

    what does it say for your temp directories, eg:

    tmp=c:\windows\temp
    temp=c:\windows\temp

    Just had a look at Livve home page.That program is full of spyware.Go to Start>Run>type in msinfo32>click on software enviroment>startup programs>click edit>select all>copy and paste the page back here.They do have an opt out page where you can stop the spyware companys from collecting infomation from you,but i still think you have to remove the stuff thats already on your computer.Weather the program will still work after the spyware is removed,i dont know.

    I don't like PalTalk. Its not to user friendly. Least not to me. I was in mplayer til it closed & 4anything.com is a spinoff of it.

    God I miss mplayer(aka HearMe.com) That was a great program...til they sold it to Gamespy. ( I hate gamespy...yuck!! )

    They still have mplayer in foreign countries & alot of people go to them. I may now that I have a better computer.

    Hi Savvy,
    Yes it's Linda doing all this. I have done scan disk, defragged, did several virus scans with nothing showing up. I went to Run and typed that in but I didn't see a column to the right with ok's in it. I uninstalled everything with Livve and Paltalk, including going to the Add/Remove and even typing in, find files and deleting anything at all to do with the programs and then reinstalled them. That message: Failed to create empty document is what comes up when he tries to go to Livve and when he tries to go to Paltalk, no matter what name he puts in, it says: That user name can't be found. It may be something more serious. When we took our computers to the shop to make mine the main one for the netwebbing, they found 55 errors in his registry. Thanks so much to you and everyone who gave advice.
