What download speed can I expect when downloading an audio track? Is 4kbp/s or less normal? Dial up modem

Your download speed would appear to be about right for Dial Up. Although I am on DSL now - I had a Dialup Acct with A O Hell for 3 years and there were times I was glad to get that speed :)

    If you use http://www.google.com

You may find tweak sites that will allow you to get a bit more but in all honesty its probably not worth the bother. People often think oh - 56k modem ... I should be getting 7 or 8k but it never works out like that.

    Hi ellis.b7

I agree with RSM123 - if I get 4k I'm happy, it is often a lot less than that

You can sometimes download faster by using a download manager ( I use flashget ) this can split a file into several parts and download them simultaneously - thereby downloading the file quicker ( sometimes ). However some sites do not allow the use of download managers.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I am stuck with 0.5 to 3.6 until broadband comes this way. The next question is Why is downloading so popular when life is so short?

I think you need to find a philosophy board for that one :D

Meanwhile if you want to try Flashget you can get it here :-
