Please help. I found DPI.exe on my computer and I don't know how to get rid of it. Also, I don't know if there are other adware and spyware on my computer that I am not aware of.

Here is my Hijack log below. Please let me know what I can do to get these stuff out of my computer. Thanks.

Perhaps downloading, installing, and running adaware can help. If you already have ad-aware make sure it is the second edition that just came out. Also, make sure the latest updates are downloaded. You can download the updates by clicking the 'check for updates' link on the ad aware status page. Adaware SE can be downloaded at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

Hi theyees, after finishing donnieb's instructions, try the following to further clean/fix your system

Do a CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager and under running "Processes" kill ("End process") EVERY instance of EACH and EVERY one of the following processes (if you find them)- there may be more than one of any of them running, kill em all:

    tgcmd.exe
    Apropos.exe
    dpi.exe

Move Hijack This to its own folder (like create a new folder for it called HijackThis on the desktop or in "My Documents"), and then run Hijack This again and put a check next to each of the following items, then close all other windows and browsers (including this one - leaving only HijackThis open) and then click "Fix checked"

    Now boot to Safe Mode

How to boot to Safe Mode:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...001052409420406

To make your hidden files and folders visible, go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options". Make sure there is a check next to "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Now click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now in Safe Mode find and delete the following file:

    C:\program files\support.com\client\bin\tgcmd.exe

    and delete the following folders:

    C:\Program Files\AproposClient
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dpi

Delete files/folders from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp.
    C:\Windows\Temp\
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <<<This will delete your files in your internet cache--including cookies.
    C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

    Then empty the Recycle Bin.

    Then reboot to normal mode.

Now go here to do an online virus scan (make sure you checkmark to scan AND clean):

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Run Hijack This again and post a new log here

    Thanks donnieb6680 & wdm2291!

I did as you suggested and I am hopeful that I got rid of all the adware and spyware in my system.

Here is my updated Hijack log. Can you confirm that my problems have been resolved? Thanks.

Hope everything is OK. I just wanted to say that I would recommend that you regularly run Ad-aware or any other spyware/adware program you have. Spybot Search & Destroy is also recommended to help prevent getting adware in the first place. (y)

    Hi theyees

Your log looks good except for this one entry below, which should be fixed in Hijack This.

In addition to running the programs that donnieb suggests, I would also suggest you go to this link and download the free beta program Microsoft is making free for the time being (they bought Giant antispyware, whose program placed first in tests at detecting malware, and this free download is the result- they made it their AntiSpyware program (MS did)):

    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/about.mspx

Also fix this entry in Hijack This:

    O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/...all/xscan53.cab

Also, to prevent spyware from getting a foothold on your computer in the first place, download, install and update and run regularly (also update regularly) this program:

    SpywareBlaster (free) from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

    Hope this fixes it all,

    Wayne

Thanks again. This solves my problem on my main computer. I performed the same suggestions on my other computer, but I don't know if I got rid of everything that shouldn't be there. Can you take a look at this Hijack log? Thanks.

You should move HijackThis to its own folder (say, on the desktop) that isn't in a temp folder.

Run HijackThis again and fix the following entries:

    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

These (following) entries should be fixed if this addresses don't not belong to your PC-manufacturer or your 'Internet-Service-Provider (ISP)':

    O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://store.presario.net/scripts/redirectors/presario/storeredir 2.dll?s=consumerfav&c=2c02&lc=0409

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://store.presario.net/scripts/r...&c=2c02&lc=0409

These entries (following) might be malicious and should be fixed if you don't know or use them:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.aaamath.com/

    O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/...all/xscan53.cab

    O16 - DPF: {C02226EB-A5D7-4B1F-BD7E-635E46C2288D} (Toontown Installer ActiveX Control) - http://download.toontown.com/sv1.0.14.16/ttinst.cab

Other than this, I can't find anything wrong with this log (that doesn't mean you don't have problems). Have you done any virus scans? What do Norton Antivirus and Spybot tell you? Have you downloaded and run AdAware SE? (if not, I'd suggest that, and another online scan).

A list of free online scans can be found here:

    Hope this helps,

    Wayne
