For the NIC, you will need to post manufacturer/model information. For the PCI Controller you will need to post the motherboard manufacturer/model information.

That model number for the NIC looks like a model number for a modem...

Is the sound integrated into the mother board?

    modem?........
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
    aint this enough then?

Yes i think the sound is in the motehrboard...
there are three ports a pink one wiht a microphone
green one with the sideways line and waves coming off one end.
and another blue port with waves coming off other end..
sound works when i hook the sound device in the middle green one..

If the network card was installed after the PC was purchased, then you can go HERE to download the driver.

As for the rest. Go to http://support.dell.com
    Click on Downloads & Drivers
In the drop downs on the right, select Dimension on the top one and 4550 on the bottom one.
Select your OS and hit GO.
Now you can download any and all drivers available for your system.

You could have a bad network card. You could try it in another system or buy a new one.
