I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running a Windows XP OS. The problem I'm running into is that my DVD/CDRW drive will no longer recognize any disk that is inserted into it. Under the device manager I have a yellow exclaimation point (!) under DVD/CD-ROM drives

    MATSHITA DVD/CDRW UJDA770

In Device Manager, the Device status reads as follows:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

This error is also preventing me from backing up my saved files on the HDD & adding a new Western Digital external HDD for additional storage. There was a similar forum http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/567801-i-need-drivers-matshita-dvd.html
posted in April of 2007 from another forum user regarding this same issue but it doesn't appear that their issue was resolved sufficiently. I'm hoping some knowledgable person will be able to assist me with this same problem. Thanks in advance ladies & gents for any assistance.

Delete this drive in Device manager and reboot to see if it will reinstall.
