I found the following errors in my Device Manager

The hardware was not installed because the
wizard cannot find the necessary software.

    ? Other devices
    ? Ethernet Controller
    ? SM Bus Controller
    ? Video Controller
    ? Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Can someone please tell me how I can go about
fixing these errors. I'm using a desktop computer
    with Windows XP.

    Thanks

If you did install Windows XP SP3 in your computer, you will need to install the drivers for its primary devices(chipset, graphics, audio, ethernet, wireless) afterwards.

You should have searched for and obtained the necessary drivers for your computer's primary devices before you installed Windows XP SP3.

Is your computer a factory-brand one or is it a self-built one?

What is the exact model name and number of the motherboard? (If it's not a name brand) If it is then the Make and model number of the machine.

You'll need to go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers for those devices. Remember to install the Chipset Driver before anything else.

The order I like to do it is as follows.

    1. Chipset
    2. Reboot
    3. Video
    4. Reboot
    5. Lan/Nic
    6. Audio
    7. USB 3 (Which I'm sure you won't have on an older board)
    8. Anything else.

As Frank said "You should have searched for and obtained the necessary drivers for your computer's primary devices before you installed Windows XP SP3. "

I suspect it may not even be SP3 if it is a fresh install from a disc
That said I think it unlikely we will receive a response
