I had some dual boots and even a triple boot on my old laptop, but can attest that it is possible to mess things up and have to start more or less from scratch. So be ultra careful if you want to avoid having to reinstall Windows.

When you are booted with Live CD in Puppy ...

Menu - Setup - Puppy universal installer.

You'll be able to use that to install Puppy to whatever partition you choose and to set up the multiple boot. I think you get a couple choices for that and I recommend grub.

My Puppy installation is on a 800 MB partition and is using 440 MB, so you may have trouble.

DSL has similar features and when I had the "full" installation it used 260 MB so that my be a better choice for you if you can't increase the partition size.

I'm not sure that DSL has a partition manager so you might have to use something like Parted Magic or Gparted, which is on most live linux cd's to partition your HD. You would install Win98 first then shrink the partition leaving enough room for two more partitions. Then you would make a 1/2 gig partition for swap and the rest for the Linux OS. Then install linux and write grub to the mbr - it will find win98 and add it to the boot menu automatically.

You won't destroy the mbr, it will just have grub on it. If you ever decide to get rid of linux you would run a fix mbr command and it would revert back to the way it is now.
You might want to google dual booting to be on the safe side.
