I bought a dual layer nec writer and couldn't write anything, so I replaced it with a panasonic dvr-108
But it still will not write, even cds

Tried it in my system (xp pro sp1) and still the same problem

Are there some codecs or something to make dual layer work as a cd burner?

I am at a loss to understand why my single layer writer works all the time but have problems with the dual layer technology.

As always any help gratefully recieved :)

What software are you trying to use with it?

If the software did not come with the drive then you almost certainly need to update it in order for it to properly utiliize your drive.

Nero 6, but what else is there?

Do I need to install something for it to work as a cd writer?

I'm at a loss, it's new technology to me and any help would be appreciated

    Thanks, Ian

There is a manual on the Nero disk and it's in PDF format. it's realy not that hard once you get the hang of it, a little hint make sure that Test Only is not checked or you'll get no where slow.

But what is the difference between double and single layer to the computer?

Why does a single layer writer work but not a dual layer?

Do I need to d/l new codecs or something?

My 8x sony works on both computers, one of which has ASPI installed (according to Nero), the other doesn't (according to Nero),

I thought that it may be due to the cables, but on exchanging the drives, that put paid to that idea :D

this is a printout of the Nero log, it doesnt make much sense to me except for the last few lines, where it mentions an illegal disk

I've tried all sorts of disks to burn to but all to no avail.
