I am having an issue trying to do dual monitors on my desktop.

I have the DVI cable connected to my main monitor and the VGA cable connected to an old Inspiron 1521 Laptop which i'm trying to utilize to be my second monitor.

When I look in the control panel at the Screen Resolution window it says it detects my laptop but on the laptop screen it doesn't show my mouse when I move the pointer over to it.

I don't really understand why it's not working. If you could help me out that would be appreciated.

The VGA port on your laptop, is an Output only. You cannot input the signal from your desktop Video Adapter to your laptop.
