I found 1874 Duplicate files in my system by using System Mechanic.
My operation system is Windows2000 built on NT technology, many duplicate files found in C:\i386\... and also in C:\winnt\...

I would like to know if I can delete these files. they have many different type, such as *sys, *inf, *dll, *com, *ini, *wav, *hlp, *cfg...... and they took too many space.

Please give me your advise. Thanks.

oh, by the way, if the files can be deleted, should I delete them from C:\i386\... or from C:\winnt\...?

Don't delete those files unless you never want to add hardware to your system. The i386 directory is the system files for installing the OS and peripherals. This is new as previously you had to keep the CD you installed from for print drivers, hardware drivers, etc. This way Win2K knows to where to find the drivers and install them without asking.
