I just bought an I/O Magic Dual Layer 16x External DVD+-RW burner and with it came packaged Nero Express Suite. I installed Nero Vision Express 2 so I could take a movie (in .avi) format and burn it to DVD to be played in most DVD players. The process starts and it transcodes the movie, but when it goes to write the lead-in it just stops working. It doesn't quit or give me an error message, it just doesn't go anywhere. When I pull the DVD-R out (I believe they are Maxell 8x which my roommate uses and they work just fine) there's a thin line around the center of the DVD-r. I can't seem to find a firmware update for the burner anywhere (besides the one for the Vaio). I am currently away from home but I have the Nero Info Tool and I can post that log later. But are there any suggestions as to why it just quits at the lead-in?

The first thing I would do is try a different brand of media.

Don't burn to disc. Burn it to your HD (folder) with NeroVision and see if it completes. If it does, open it with Nero Showtime (choose Play from Folder) and see if it works.

You viewed it in Showtime and it looks good?

Then you know it's not a Nero/software problem. So it's either the burner or more likely the discs you have.

You can try posting here, provide some numbers/dates off the drive, to figure out who really makes it, or try some other brands..... Verbatim, TDK, Fuji. You can hit I/O's site for recommendations also.

Could it be a problem between the burner and my computer communicating with eachother?
