When I try to use the plug in zip, the DVD or the CD rom, they will not with messages such as format not recognised. If I restart the PC all is okay.

    I'm using XP Home Edition

    Advice would be appreciated

If you could give me a few more details,
Plug in zip? What kind of zip drive do you have? How does it connect to the PC? Is it SCSI, USB, Serial, Parrallel, or IDE?
How are they set up? What ide channel is the dvd drive on? Primary or Secondary? and is it master or slave? same for the cd drive. And if the zip is IDE same for it as well.

It sounds liek you may be having a reasource conflict somewhere along the line. I would look into that first.
