DVD cdrom missing from device manager list. When power up system light on player flashes but it is missing from device manager list. I've tried regedit, removed upper and lower filter but it didn't help. Checked bios, it is set as first device to boot. Is it software or it might be the DVD player itself?

You appear to have a very old HP/Compaq brand computer.
What's the model number(M/N) and product number(P/N) and serial number(S/N) on it?

Even though the disc drive is missing in the Device Manager, are you still able to load and get a disc to work in it?
It's very possible the disc drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

    Hi Frank, Model Pavilion DV 6700Z DV 6707 Product #KC305UA #ABA , SN CNF7513F3Q.

When I load a CD, light flashes, like its being read, but nothing happens. Wondering if its the player not responding? But the system doesn't see the player. Yeah its an old laptop, everything else is still working though.

According to that product number and serial number:
You have THIS HP Pavilion dv6704nr Entertainment Notebook PC which was purchased in January 2008 and came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

HERE is the troubleshooting article about the disc drive not being detected in Windows Vista.
