Hi, I have a Matshita dvd/cdrw drive which is running and playing audio cds and dvds we have burnt but will not play "normal" dvds or vcds.

This has happened since I had to do a full re-install of windows (xp) and I am wondering if I have missed something off the install.

I have tried running many different discs in case it was a disc problem, but when I put a standard dvd in the drive, it turns the disc, goes through the initial process of reading the disc and then doesn't even acknowledge the fact there is a disc in.
Putting in a vcd brings up the explorer folder showing contents of the disc, but there is nothing I can click on which will run the disc.
I tried manually running the discs through powerdvd, dell media experience and windows media, but all said there was no disc in the drive.

I have tried researching this problem, and all I come up with are suggestions that the drive has had it, but the timing of this problem would suggest to me that it's more a "user error" type problem!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
