    Hi to all @ TSG

I had this problem before and restored my PC to Factory settings. All was OK then. However, this problem has resurfaced.

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows XP Pro SP 3.

I use Nero software and when I go to backup using a DVD-R disc, it isn't recognised. In Event Viewer, the message is

    Product: Windows Operating System
    ID: 11
    Source: Cdrom
    Version: 5.2
    Symbolic Name: IO_ERR_CONTROLLER_ERROR
Message: The driver detected a controller error on %1.

    Explanation
This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer.

    thing is, WHAT cabel???

I checked for update driver but as per usual, no better was was detected. Went to Lenovo and updated a package for the audion driver but this didn't make any difference.

Weird thing is, if I use a Rewritable disc, it works OK! I can play music and burn to CDs without problems.

    Please please advise?

    Many thanks

    Hi Morny! :)

Have you tried more than one brand of DVD-R discs?

Yes, I did I tried Pidata and Tesco's but when I clicked on 'disc info' no disc detected. I've just redone one with a Rewriteable disc and it was fine. However, went to do another rewritable one, and removed info but when I went to burn the new info, no disc detected!!!!! So I deleted what I had!! So annoying.

    Tried another burning software?

I use CDBurnerXP. It works for more than XP. (Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/2008/Win7 - x86 / x64)

I find it simple, light and effective.

Well I went to update via Device Manage but as per usual No better one found? Anyways, update on Lenovo but after restarting, same results. I dowloaded one of those driver updates, which cost money but wasn't sure if this was advisable. It found loads out-dated but would cost me over £30.00 to fix? Hmm not sure about this,

These devices will eventually fail or need adjustments. However, frequently, it'll be cheaper to buy a new one than having it repaired!

I thought I'd uninstalled the recent driver updates but there's one still there from Uniblue. I'm half tempted to fork out £30.00 to get this sorted but................... ???

I don't believe Uniblue is going to sort it out... :(
