I have a Lite On DVD RW SHW-160 P6s disk drive with XP as the OS.

I am able to watch most movie DVDs (both US and Europe bought, including DVD9 dual layered). However a few which were purchased in Europe (legal DVD) just could not be opened by the the drive. It does not show up in Explorer either. I could hear the disk spinning and clicking in the drive. If I click on the drive in Explorer, it freezes.

I have installed codecs from K-Lite. I have checked that the drivers for the disk drive is up to date. I prefer using Videolan's VLC media player which is supposed to be able to play all regions. The default media player, HP DVD Play, requires me to change the regions and allows only 5 changes so I opted to not use it.

Any help in helping me figure out why I cannot play those DVDs is appreciated.
