If I purchase a dual layer dvd that can burn up to 8.5g on one dvd, would I have to also purchase special 8.5g blank dvd's? How would that work out?
Any answers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, if you wish to use Dual Layer capability you will need to purchase Dual Layer media and its not cheap(around $10 per disc). You can of course still use regular 4.7 GB DVD's and CD's if you don't wish to use Dual Layer discs.

Prices are indeed going to drop, hopefully before a new technology emerges and takes hold though.

The + and - are simply two different formats; like VHS and BETA. Do not buy a drive that does not support both, pretyy much all do and this will give you the greatest compatibility and choice in media.
