Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite C50 on Windows 8. -8 months old. It has a DVD Drive. I have installed VLC to playback DVD's, however, after only a few minutes of playback the picture freezes, and weirdly the sound starts to repeat the same 5 secs or so of speech over and over and over again...... even after the DVD has been removed from the drive!!
I have uninstalled and reinstalled VLC, uninstalled the pre-installed Toshiba video player (in case it was conflicting?), uninstalled and reinstalled the DVD drive.
I have now uninstalled VLC and tried another programme - installed GOM player and the filter to get sound - same problem (without the sound repetition)
Any ideas anyone??
If all else fails - off to Argos for a £20 DVD player!!!....but I hate to be beaten!

Are you able to read data (DVD) discs? Try copying files from a data disc to the HDD. That will simulate a constant read, such as when a movie is playing.

Aside from that, I'd suspect a software/driver conflict/glitch.

Are you using Windows 8 or 8.1? Are all updates and patches installed?

You could try manually updating/reinstalling the system/video/audio drivers.

Hi thanks for replying
I've tried to copy the disc to my hard drive but the disc is encrypted.:-(
It has worked in the past??
I'm using 8.1 - where do I find latest updates and patches please - not sure what this means!?
As for manually updating /reinstalling the system/video/audio drivers - is there an idiot guide for this???
Thanks
Cx

Yes - gave a wipe with a lint free cloth.
I've tried the same DVD in another lap top and it worked fine so its got to be my machine :-(
I've used a DVD lens cleaner and still have the same problem.

Drivers should all be available from Toshiba.

Typically, a hardware fault results in skipping or the disc not playing. The repeating audio and player lockup, sound like a software/driver issue.
