I have a Matshita DVD-RAM SW 95735, I have burned many cds buy using windows drag and drop utility. Now when I try it tells me there is no disk in the drive. Also it no longer shows cd record tab under properties and under the registry it dosn't show it as a DVD/CDR drive, but it used to. I have installed a new firmware, unistalled, reinstalled. It will still write to the ram with no problem but this problem has me and my friend totally at a loss. Please HELP!!!

Put it in your friends computer and see if it works. If it doesn't, it's probably trashed.

I have the same issue. I have no desire to take the drive out and put it in another person's computer. For a while, I burned CD's well. I used Nero 7 and Winamp to burn my CD's. Now the drive does not recognize a blank CD but recognized burned and data CD's.

It's have a fairly new Media Center XP HP machine (bought in in
august) and just last week the CD/DVD burner stopped working. It's a
two optical-drive machine, and the DVD player still works.
Surprisingly, the DVD burner which stopped working can still read data!
It just can't recognize a blank disc: It says "insert blank disc."

I installed NERO about a month ago and used it to burn some ISOs, but
in my fit of panic uninstalled NERO thinking it might have some usage
issues, but that did not work. (Before I uninstalled NERO it couldn't
    recognize a disc either)

I hope it's not hardware, but I don't think so as the drive can still
play data. I've already done the net start imapiservice, and although
it says the service was not turned on and turned it on, the drive can
    still not recognize blank CDs.

I also uninstalled and re-installed the driver.

    It's a LightScribe DVD/CD-writer, with a number of HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA

    Thanks for ANY help.
