WIN 10 Pro upgraded from Win 7 Pro. Both DVD's have stopped working - won't recognize disc whether blank or recorded. Expect this happened with WIN 10 update, but no idea when. Have gone thru every recommended procedure (1-6) I've found so far on web to no avail. Both listed in device manager, drawers open and close - Win keeps asking for a disc to be installed as inserted not recognized. Computer fine except for this one problem. I've uninstalled, tried updating ATAPI drivers, disconnected/reconnected - I'm at a loss. One drive did recognize a music CD for a short period, but would not play, then said disc not recognized - same disc works fine in other computers.
As an aside - I built this machine 8+ years ago and had specs listed at TSG but can't find now. Not that this makes any difference IMO, since it appears a MS problem that has basically rendered DVD drives useless.

Every thing functions - just won't read disc. At any rate, after exiting safe mode, unit will not boot saying error in win 10. So off to see the Wizard. Will get back to you. Thanks for response.

Can consider this thread closed/solved/dead. Hammered OS trying to resolve DVD/CD problem. Did find that DVD was officially dead by connecting up with Ubuntu OS computer.
