I just added an Asus External Slim DVD - Writer SCRW-08U9M-U to my computer. I'm a real novice and was so pleased the computer accepted it. I put a movie DVD in the player and I see it on the computer, but I can't get it to play.

Hi Blou, and welcome to TSG.

Microsoft removed built-in support for playing DVDs in Windows 10. Microsoft offers some DVD players in their store. You can also choose other software to play DVDs. VLC media player is one free option that can play DVDs as well as many other things.

Another recommendation for a DVD player is Windows Media Player Classic. Free.

It's available here..... WMP Classic plus Klite Codec Pack

Download the 'Standard' offering as it includes the media player.
It's my favored DVD player.

Thanks, I've gotten it running. I had installed the external DVD writer properly, but my neighbor came over and showed me that I just needed to open some stuff. So it's working great now.
