Im trying to help my buddy set up his dvr cams so he can see them online.

ive opened up port 8080 and 2000, thats what its set on the dvr.

connecting to the external ip, xx.xx.xx.xx:8080 takes me to the router setup?

any idea whats going on and how to correct this?

If port 8080 is the router's you will need to use a different (external) port. Let's say you choose port xxxx; then you port forward xxxx (WAN) to 8080 (LAN) and access it vi xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx.
