I like that Haley guy who sang "Rock around the clock". And whoever it was that sang Rocket 88. Elvis is good too.

Rocket 88 - written and recorded by Ike Turner, and, in 1991, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognized it as the first rock and roll song. It has been covered over the years by a number of people, including Bill Haley, James Cotton and Aerosmith.

    Lyrics for: Rocket 88

You may have heard of jalopies,
You heard the noise they make,
Let me introduce you to my Rocket '88.
Yes it's great, just won't wait,
    Everybody likes my Rocket '88.
    Gals will ride in style,
    Movin' all along.

V-8 motor and this modern design,
My convertible top and the gals don't mind
Sportin' with me, ridin' all around town for joy.
Blow your horn, Rocket, blow your horn

Step in my Rocket and-don't be late,
    We're pullin' out about a half-past-eight.
Goin' on the corner and havin' some fun,
Takin' my Rocket on a long, hot run.
    Ooh, goin' out,
Oozin' and cruisin' and havin' fun

Now that you've ridden in my Rocket '88,
I'll be around every night about eight.
You know it's great, don't be late,
    Everybody likes my Rocket '88.
    Gals will ride in style,
    Movin' all along.

    Hi Katonca

I also like Elvis's gospel music best, being that I was brought up with that kind of music . I saw Elvis in the 70's and he really sung his heart out, he belted out How great thou art! I loved it.

You can't beat the 60's music. My parent's preferred the 50's music, some of the 50s is good, Elvis started in the 50's that's when rock and Roll started, people don't realize that if is wasn't the 50's and 60's music there wouldn't be any to-day, it all started from then. I am glad that you think Elvis is hot, I saw him in one of his concerts in Las Vegas in the 70's. That was something.

    Hi janb,

Elvis's breakout was in the mid 50's. He was bigger then than in the 60's when the British invaded. And bigger still in his Vegas years toward the end and with his movies. At one point he was the richest dead man still earning about $50M/year from all of the artifacts that became available for people to buy and get a piece of the "legend" - being sold at Graceland and environs.

    Hello Tom

I agree that Elvis was bigger in the 50's and maybe the early 60's, I saw him perform in Las Vegas in the early 70's, that was just before his health started to go.

I like Elvis much more today then I did when I graduated in '57.
I still prefer 50's music and search for "oldies" music stations. Same for the Beatles, I hated all that "noise" when they came ashore, but now they are my favorite group-just took time to wear a groove between my earlobe and my brain.
Nearly everyone, even teens recognise 50's songs, I wonder how many will remember words to any of the stuff thats popular today in 50 years?
(mention 3 coins in a fountain and just listen to half the crowd start humming!)
