Looking for recommendations:

Children and the Blind have something in common: The desire to have an email client that is simple, easy to use, easy to navigate and works. A bonus is that it TALKS. And please do not recommend the top voice programs (jaws, windows eyes, screenreader) Problems: (1) finding the icon for "new mail" (etc). (2) icons, which, even if there, are way too small (3) does not work well with Outlook, Windows Live Mail or even Thunderbird.

So, since TALKING software is pretty much useless,....

I'd like to know if you can recommend Email for Children or the Blind.

Thank you
Jerrold

Hi,
Have you looked at Vinux? It's an operating system rather than an email client but maybe some benefits in an integrated system? Being Ubuntu-based there's good support as well as being free and legal, so no ethical issues to worry about.

Anyway some quotes from their website:
"[FONT=tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Vinux is a remastered version of the Ubuntu Linux Distribution optimised for visually impaired users. It provides a screen-reader, full-screen magnification and support for Braille displays out of the box! It can be run from a Live CD without making any changes to your hard drive. If you like it you can install it to a USB pendrive or to your hard drive either alongside Windows, or as a complete replacement for it. There is also a virtual version available which can run Vinux as a guest operating system using VMWare Player on Windows."

The default screen-reader/magnifier is called Orca, although we also provide Speakup, a console based screen-reader and Compiz, a magnifier based on 3D technology. Vinux also provides a wide range of open source software including an internet browser, a file manager, a text editor and various multimedia applications. Vinux is designed to be a completely secure modern desktop system for all the family, visually impaired and sighted alike."

Hope this is of interest?
