I need to know (secretly) when my sent email has been read by the receiver. I use Outlook 2002 -- does anyone know of a good, free program to monitor this?

    Thnx.

That is just like the way spam works. You are going to lose friends if you start doing that and they discover it.

Thanks, but I'm looking for a freeware version. This isn't for spam -- it's for legal purposes.
Doubt I'll lose any friends over it :)

You didn't read all of their descriptions. They have 3 versions - one is free.

Please note that Hotmail, Yahoo!, AOL and similar services CANNOT run MSGTAG.
You can send message-tags to Hotmail, Yahoo! and AOL addresses, and use these services to receive your receipts, but you cannot send tagged messages from these services.

Sorry -- I was wrong. I need something that runs on Hotmail.

The easiest way to block MSGTAG tags is to set your email client program to block external HTML images .

This means you will be missing out on images in email newsletters, but it's probably a small price to pay.

    Or use a firewall

Or set your email to plain text only.

    etc....

Does that block only the tag, or does it block the tagged message itself ?

The return tag is blocked, the sender does not know if it was read.
