Hi stevecook

Is the @ sign supposed to be between your name or before freeserve.co.uk ?

OK, just verifying that.

What happens when you send a message to yourself?

Just sent a message to myself and received it without problem. The messages that are coming back are taking 3 to 4 days to return.

Since your server delivered your message to you, it sounds like it is a problem with tesco's servers.

Are you receiving e-mails from contacts using tesco e-mail addresses?
If so, then it sounds like Tesco's servers are not accepting mail from freeserve.

Do you have a Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo account you can use to try sending your Contact a message?

Yes, it appears that Tesco is blocking email coming from your domain (cook3395.freeserve.co.uk). Unforunately, you'll have to contact Tesco's tech support (who will probably have no idea what to do, neither will they probably be able to fix it for you anyways).

Try sending an email to [email protected] with a description of your problem and the error email you posted here if Tesco's tech support can't help you.

I've also had some emails sent back from addresses at ntlworld.com and some of these were just straight email text messages with no attachments.
I am receiving emails from the addresses that are rejecting my replies (whether sent as replies or new messages).

That's because their email servers are blocking messages coming from your email server, but not the other way around. Your email server is still accepting messages from theirs.

If they've been receiving a lot of spam email either from cook3395.freeserve.co.uk or just freeserve.co.uk email addresses, then that email domain might have been put on a blacklist on their servers.

There is no spam sent from my address and the addresses that are refusing are family and friends. Is there any body I can approach to get these restrictions removed or do I have to change my email address or ISP?

There COULD be spam being sent from freeserve.co.uk email addresses. Yours isn't the only email address at freeserve.

I'll repeat for you what I posted in a few posts above yours:
Unforunately, you'll have to contact Tesco's tech support (who will probably have no idea what to do, neither will they probably be able to fix it for you anyways).

Try sending an email to [email protected] with a description of your problem and the error email you posted here if Tesco's tech support can't help you.
It is being blocked on their end. Only thing you can do is contact them.

As you suggested I have emailed the postmaster at Tesco but that won't help with the ntlworld emails (will this be the same problem on the ntl network?) and if so do you know the postmaster address for them please?

Thanks for your help - I will post if I get any response.
