    Hi there,

im having a problem which i could really do with some help on.

    here whats happened:

I encrypted a folder on my D:\ drive called personal - i placed all my personal files inside here. (simple right click encryption, nothing special).

I then forgot all about the folder a few weeks later as i formatted my C:\ drive (windows install) - installed a fresh copy of xp.. all good.. so i thought

Untill i tried to access my encrypted folder, as you can imagine it wont let me, nor will it let me un encrypt it or take ownership of the folder.

Stupidly, i dont have a backup of the folder, can anyone help me get my files back??

    Thanks

Unfortunately, you will not be able to access the files again. The key used to create the encryption has to be backed up before reinstalling Windows. There's nothing that can be done now.

No one has broken EFS encryption. If there were a crack, what would be the point in using it?
